Telecommuting Keeps Office Going Despite Blizzard
Science Writers's offices are located just outside Washington, D.C., which was hit with record-breaking amounts of snow this month. Our clients, however, are located all over the United States and in many foreign countries. For that reason, our services are still needed even when blizzard conditions have made car travel impossible locally.
During the week of the storm, Science Writers staff worked with clients in Mississippi to ready a new site for launch, clients in Belgium to edit a climate-based website page, and clients in Argentina to code a new page on the dangers of mercury in the workplace. Our staff also conducted a distance learning class for a new client in New Jersey, whose blog will be focusing on help for women who have breast cancer.
"After years of providing web services for first responders around the nation, we understand the importance of being available 24/7, no matter how bad the weather gets," said Science Writers CEO Phil Nash.

Helping Public Broadcasting in Mississippi
The weak economy has underscored the importance of National Public Radio and Public Television stations around the nation, which provide high quality entertainment and news programming at a fraction of the cost of commercial outlets. To help Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) fundraise and make their subscriber operations more effective, Science Writers was hired to build a new website for the Foundation for Public Broadcasting in Mississippi, the fundraising arm of MPB. As the "Champion of all things Mississippi," the Foundation's website is designed to promote pride in the state as well as support for tourism and the local arts community. Paintings by local artists and photos of the picturesque "Magnolia State" will be featured on every page, reminding people in-state and around the nation that Mississippi is more than just the birthplace of the blues.
"We are honored to be working with the Foundation for Public Broadcasting in Mississippi," said Science Writers President Emi Ireland. "This beautiful state deserves a website that will showcase its many natural and cultural assets."

Sustainable Health Care Site Has Global Impact
Science Writers client Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), an international coalition of almost 500 organizations in over 50 countries that is leading the global movement for environmentally-responsible health care, used its website to communicate with its global audience during the December 2009 Copenhagen Conference on global climate issues. Regular updates to its website, blogs, wiki, and extensive searchable online document library led to many mentions of HCWH in the news media and in blogs worldwide. A key message promoted by HCWH was that global climate issues will have a major impact on global health as well as the global environment.
"We are honored to be working with Health Care Without Harm in its campaign to improve health care worldwide and help the medical community live up to the standards of the Hippocratic Oath: "First do no harm," said Science Writers President Emi Ireland.
